“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinegrower.
Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every one that bears fruit He prunes, so that it may bear more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.
Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me.
I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown outside like the branch and withers; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
In this My Father has been glorified: that you bear much fruit and become My disciples.
Just as the Father loved Me, I also loved you. Remain in My love.
If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be made full.
“This is My commandment: that you love one another just as I loved you.
No one has greater love than this: that someone should lay down his life for his friends.
You are My friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I heard from My Father.
You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you so that you should go and bear fruit and your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
These things I command you, so that you love one another.
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before you.
If you were from the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not from the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.
Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will also keep yours.
But they will do all these things to you because of My name, because they do not know the One who sent Me.
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
The one who hates Me hates My Father also.
If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father.
But this is so that the word written in their law might be fulfilled: ‘They hated Me without cause.’
“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about Me.
And you also bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
