1He entered a synagogue again, and a man with a withered hand was there.

2They watched Him closely to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.

3He said to the man with the withered hand, “Arise and come into the midst.”

4He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

5He looked around at them with anger, grieving at the hardness of their hearts, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

6The Pharisees went out and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

7Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed; and from Judea,

8Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and the region of Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude heard all He was doing and came to Him.

9He told His disciples to have a small boat ready for Him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush Him.

10For He healed many, so that all who had afflictions pressed upon Him to touch Him.

11Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell before Him and cried, “You are the Son of God!”

12He sternly warned them not to make Him known.

13He went up the mountain and called to Himself those He wanted, and they came to Him.

14He appointed twelve to be with Him and to be sent out by Him to proclaim

15and to have authority to cast out the demons.

16He appointed the Twelve: Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter;

17James son of Zebedee and John, James’s brother, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder;

18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananaean,

19and Judas Iscariot, who also handed Him over.

20He came into a house, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat bread.

21When His own people heard, they went out to take hold of Him, for they were saying, “He is out of His mind.”

22The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He has Beelzebul,” and, “By the ruler of the demons He casts out the demons.”

23He called them to Himself and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan cast out Satan?

24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

26If Satan has risen against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but has come to an end.

27No one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his belongings unless he first binds the strong man. Then he will plunder his house.

28Truly I tell you, everything will be forgiven the sons of humankind—the sins and whatever blasphemies they may utter.

29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness forever, but is liable for an eternal sin.”

30For they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

31His mother and His brothers came. Standing outside, they sent to Him and called Him.

32A crowd was sitting around Him. They said to Him, “Look! Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.”

33He answered them, “Who is My mother, or who are My brothers?”

34He looked around at those sitting in a circle about Him and said, “Look—My mother and My brothers!

35For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”
