1So six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

2They made a supper for Him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with Him.

3Then Mary took a litra of costly perfume of genuine nard, anointed Jesus’ feet, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was about to hand Him over, said,

5“Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

6He said this not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, he used to carry off what was put into it.

7So Jesus said, “Leave her, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial.

8For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”

9A great crowd of the Jews learned that He was there, and they came not because of Jesus alone, but also to see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead.

10But the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus also,

11because on his account many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

12The next day, the great crowd that had come to the feast, hearing that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13took branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”

14Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, just as it is written,

15“Do not fear, daughter Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting upon a donkey’s colt.”

16His disciples did not understand these things at first. But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

17So the crowd that was with Him when He called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness.

18For this reason the crowd also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.

19So the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after Him.”

20Now there were some Greeks among those going up to worship at the feast.

21These approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”

22Philip came and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus.

23Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

24Amen, amen, I tell you: unless the grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

25The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

26If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.

27Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour. Yet for this reason I came to this hour.

28Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

29So the crowd standing there and hearing it said that thunder had occurred. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

30Jesus answered, “This voice has come not for My sake, but for yours.

31Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself.”

33He said this to signify by what kind of death He was about to die.

34So the crowd answered Him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How do You say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

35Then Jesus said to them, “For a little time longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness may not overtake you. The one walking in the darkness does not know where he is going.

36While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of light.” Jesus spoke these things, and went away and hid Himself from them.

37Though He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him,

38so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who believed our report? And to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed?”

39For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,

40“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they may not see with the eyes and understand with the heart and turn—and I would heal them.”

41Isaiah said these things because he saw His glory and spoke concerning Him.

42Nevertheless, many even from the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, so that they might not be put out of the synagogue,

43for they loved the glory of people more than the glory of God.

44And Jesus cried out and said, “The one who believes in Me believes not in Me, but in the One who sent Me.

45And the one who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me.

46I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in the darkness.

47And if anyone hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

48The one who rejects Me and does not receive My words has one who judges him: the word that I spoke will judge him on the last day.

49Because I have not spoken from Myself, but the Father who sent Me has Himself given Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

50And I know that His command is eternal life. So the things I speak, just as the Father has told Me, thus I speak.”
